An Online Career Path of Peter J. Clements
Peter Clements has worked, for what to many would be a life time in industry, moving from Mechanical Engineering to Safety Engineering had its compensatory benefits. On retirement from full time employment, he set up as a Consultant on Risk and Safety Management.
National service being a statutory requirement of the times, he joined the Royal Engineers on a 5 and 7 term of service. Following compulsory military training and assessment was stream lined and trained in mechanical engineering, serving his time in Plant Troops operating and maintaining heavy earth moving equipment, mobile cranes and light skin military vehicles. In addition to a short periods to U.K. locations, served in Korea and Middle East posts in the Canal Zone, Egypt.
For the ten years following military service, he settled to civilian life as a Maintenance Supervisor leading to Plant Manager of Barvis Ltd, civil engineering construction company, then to Works Manager of Bofors, a heavy steel manufacturing company. During these positions he became deeply involved in safety engineering, gaining recognition from continual training and development, working alongside safety and other government authorities. In the early 1970’s he was invited to join the Ford Motor Company’s safety engineering team at their Research and Development Establishment at Dunton, Essex.
Promoted to Safety manager, he took responsibility for S.H.E at the then Ford's largest Plant at Dagenham. Moving on to manager and Safety Coordinator UK and Ford of Europe. Part of these responsibilities included Environmental (pollution control), and water discharge management working with the then H.M. Pollution Inspectorate. (HMPI)
Skills developed through peer assessment and professional was always a major part of his development, he left the Ford Motor Company on an early retirement package as Chief Safety Engineer, and member of the global team visiting the USA.
Within three years of leaving full time employment, he was drawn back to risk management in industry setting up a risk, safety and environmental Consultancy service to small and medium enterprises. (S.M.E’s)
During the past ten years he provided a risk/safety service to a variety of industries including aircraft operations, cleaning, catering, and servicing aircraft, building and construction industries, motor industry component manufacturers, chemical products and advisory services to directors and company officers.
Risk management incorporating business risk has been a major development of his services to S.M.E ‘s embracing asset protection and resource management, following the standards of corporate governance and due diligence.
